Description

DAME 2022 Award winning Ocean Signal PLB3 Personal Locator Beacon with AIS, RLS (Return Link Service) and NFC Mobile Connectivity- Approved and easy to fit to most leading brand lifejackets.

With the introduction of Automatic Identification System (AIS) functionality, Return Link Service (RLS) technology, and Near Field Communication (NFC) capabilities in one 406 MHz Personal Locator Beacon (PLB), the rescueME PLB3 represents a significant step forward in the evolution of PLB’s. The merging of 406 MHz and AIS distress messaging effectively pairs both global and local rescue, thereby maximizing access to the most effective rescue resources available. In addition, NFC capability provides users with the world’s first smartphone connected PLB and the all-new Return Link Service feature provides users with the comfort in knowing that their distress message has been received and their location detected by worldwide Search and Rescue personnel.

As a leading innovator in life-saving products for both professional and recreational use, Ocean Signal is proud to offer the PLB3. As the world’s FIRST Personal Locator Beacon to include AIS and the world’s FIRST PLB to include NFC, there’s no need to justify why the PLB3 should be your FIRST choice.

If you do not have access to an MMSI i.e. when the PLB is not used on a boat, please select an alternative country for registration, the UK for example.

FAQs

Do I have to register my Personal Locator Beacon (PLB)?
Yes, it is compulsory. By registering your PLB, the Authorities know who you are and have all your contacts, this considerably improves the efficiency of a rescue and can save resources in the event of a false alarm.

Can I buy a PLB in one country and register it in another country?
As a rule PLBs should be purchased in your country of residence and must be registered with that countries national authority. Each PLB is supplied, pre-programmed to a specific country and can only be registered in the country for which it has been programmed. However, if you were to purchase a PLB in Ireland for registration in another country, you do have the option to have it re-programmed to the country code of your country of residence. Please enquire from us about our country code programming service.

How do I register my PLB?
Ireland - PLBs can be registered at the Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg). See this website http://www.comreg.ie/licensing_and_services/personal_locator_beacons.715.html
UK - PLBs must be registered with the Maritime & Coastguard Agency.
https://register-406-beacons.service.gov.uk/account/sign-up-or-sign-in

Can I take my PLB with me when I visit a European country?
The acceptance of a foreign license holder to carry a PLB that is correctly registered in a different EU country is now pretty universal across the administrations that are CEPT members (but there are some exceptions). For full information please see the ECC guidance page: http://www.cept.org/ecc/topics/more-topics/maritime/personal-locator-beacons-%28plbs%29-usage-in-cept

How do I get my PLB battery replaced?
Your PLB1 battery can be replaced by any of Ocean Signal's worldwide Service Centres/Distributors. CH Marine is an approved service centre.

Do I have to pay a subscription for my PLB service?
No, there are no subscription fees. After purchasing your PLB the only additional cost comes after 6 years, when the battery will need to be replaced.

Can I take a PLB on an aircraft?
The Ocean Signal rescueME PLB1 can be safely carried on board a passenger aircraft as either checked in or carry on luggage under section 2.3.5.9 of the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations.  The lithium metal battery in the rescueME PLB1 contains less than 2g of lithium and have been tested in accordance with 38.3 of the UN Manual of Tests.  Precautions should  be taken to prevent accidental activation if placed in checked in baggage.
